Filing for Senate Candidacy

 

Signature Requirements

Prospective Candidates for GCSA Senator positions must acquire signatures from 20% of the population of their Residence Hall. Commuter students must acquire a number of signatures equal to 20% of the Commuter population, although they are allowed to acquire signatures from all members of the student body.

These signatures must be gathered, in paper, and include the signer’s printed name and signature. Each signature will be verified to ensure that the signer is from the Residence Hall that the Senator candidate is seeking to represent.

Signatures must be delivered to the Student Life Office, on the third floor of Lane Student Center, by Wednesday, September 18th, at 4:30pm.

The number of signatures required by each prospective candidate is listed below:

  • Bromley – 25
  • The Village (Conrad, MacInnis, Rider, and Grace Halls) – 15
  • Tavilla – 27
  • Chase – 30
  • Evans – 21
  • Ferrin – 28
  • Wilson – 21
  • Fulton – 32
  • Nyland – 25
  • Commuters (May get signatures from any student) – 27

 

Campaign Guidelines

  • Candidates may not begin campaigning until their candidacy is approved by the Elections Committee
  • Campaigning may not disrupt classes, Chapel, or other normal operations of the college
  • Campaigns, including the actions of any volunteers campaigning for a candidate, conducted in violation of any college policy or in interruption of the programming of the college is in violation of these regulations and may be subject to disciplinary action
  • Any campaign posters must be emailed to [email protected] for approval before they may be posted, and can only be placed in the Residence Hall they are running to represent (Commuter candidates may post in campus buildings)
  • Students may use social media platforms to campaign only during the official campaign window designated by the Elections and Appointments Calendar
  • Candidates must remove campaign advertisements from public, College property within 24 hours of the close of voting
  • Infringements of advertising or campaign rules will be addressed by the Elections Committee
