Why join a committee?

Serving on a committee is a great way to serve your fellow students in a particular area that interests you. The time commitment is generally 1-2 hours per week.  This includes a weekly committee meeting, and sometimes a faculty/staff committee that you might be invited to serve on as well.

Committee on Financial Affairs

Committee’s Responsibilities

The Committee oversees a $135,000 budget and help determine how much money is given each of the student organizations and executive council organizations. Essentially, every funding proposal from every club is reviewed by the committee. The Committee also considers and develops GCSA’s overall financial policy and strategic plan. 

Member Responsibilities: (1 – 2hrs/week)

  • Attend weekly meetings (1hr)
  • Between meetings, review budget proposals and other materials and be ready to comment on them during committee

  • Chaired by the Vice President for Finance, currently, Ryan A Eikenes.
  • Director of Bookeeping
  • Director of Purchasing
  • 2-3 of the elected Representatives 
  • 2-3 appointed students who apply
Committee on Student Organizations

Committee’s Responsibilities

The Committee oversees the development and support of over 30 student organizations. The committee reviews all proposals for new organizations (clubs), and considers new programs and initiatives to better serve organizations. 

Member Responsibilities: (1 – 2hrs/week)

  • Attend weekly meetings (1hr)
  • Between meetings, review new club proposals

Committee Membership

  • Chaired by the Vice President for Student Organizations, currently, Sofi Stonehouse.
  • 2-3 of the elected Representatives 
  • 2-3 appointed students who apply
Committee on Student Life

Committee’s Responsibilities

The Committee is responsible for assessing the student life experience at Gordon and considering new initiatives to address student concerns. The committee is concerned with all areas of student life, including spiritual formation, residence life, career services, dining services, mental health, and more. Committee members also serve on a College Staff Committee, serving alongside various college staff and faculty. 

Member Responsibilities: (1 – 2hrs/week)

  • Attend weekly meetings (1hr)
  • Attend bi-weekly college life committee (athletics, chapel, sustainibility, firt year experience)

  • Chaired by the Vice President for Student Life, currently, SungIn Lee
  • 2-3 of the elected Representatives
  • 2-3 appointed students who apply
Committee on Academic Affairs

Committee’s Responsibilities

The Committee is responsible for assessing the academic (curricular) experience at Gordon and considering new initiatives to address student concerns. The committee is concerned with all areas of the academic program of the college, including academic services, curriculum and policy.

Member Responsibilities: (1 – 2hrs/week)

  • Attend weekly meetings (1hr)
  • Attend a periodic faculty committee (core, Academic Support Center Advisory, Advising, Global Education, Honors)

Committee Membership

  • Chaired by the Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • 2-3 of the elected Representatives
  • 2-3 appointed students who apply
Committee on Communications

Committee’s Responsibilities

The Committee is responsible for developing and executing effective messaging and communication strategies for Student Government. The Committee oversees GCSA communication platforms and venues. 

Member Responsibilities: (1 – 2hrs/week)

  • Attend weekly meetings (1hr)

Committee on Intercultural Engagement

Committee’s Responsibilities

The Committee is responsible for ensuring that Gordon students  the prioritization of diversity and intercultural competency at the college. He or she shall serve as chief advocate on these matters with respect to the policies of the college and coordinate educational and recreational programming.

Member Responsibilities: (1 – 2hrs/week)

  • Attend weekly meetings (1hr)

Committee on Gifts and Commencement

Committee’s Responsibilities

The Committee is responsible for fostering senior spirit through class specific programming in collaboration and to facilitate a culture of philanthropy within the student body through education and fundraising opportunities. 

Member Responsibilities: (1 – 2hrs/week)

  • Attend weekly meetings (1hr)
